First of all speak to them and get a feel for whether they can or will pay.
Offer them some alternative methods for payment, such as:
- Direct debit (you can set up instalment plans) using a service like GoCardless (free to set up and integrates seamlessly with Xero) – this is a fantastic set and forget method: Link to GoCardless
- Credit Card payments. Services like Stripe (again which can be set up with Xero) will allow customers to pay by Credit Card: Link to Stripe
- Consider whether you need to seek legal advice. Does a solicitors letter need to be sent? You can send a solicitor letter for just a few ££ using this service (they also have a useful interest calculator): Link to solicitors – we suggest that this is a last resort, as you want to keep customers on side. Remember we’re all in the same boat and everyone is struggling with their finances right now.
